Backpack for Kids
We had a very successful backpack drive this year. We were able to provide 102 backpacks and 20 sets of extra school supplies for the children in our community.
We received referrals for children in need from the programs:
- Got Your Back Shack,
- Delton Summer Fun, and
- Soups On
Gun Lake Community Church graciously donated 60 backpacks filled with school supplies, a $200.00 grant from Orangeville Community Outreach enabled us to purchase 42 backpacks and a $200.00 grant from St. Ambrose Church of Delton enabled us to purchase school supplies to fill those 42 backpacks.
On the night of pickup, we provided a snow cone machine and donuts, but the best part of the night was being able to see the huge smiles on the kid’s faces when they received their backpacks full of supplies. It was an emotional night for some parents as they explained that their children had to use paper sacks to carry their school supplies to school for years.
Once all of the backpacks were distributed, Faith United Methodist Church donated more backpacks and more school supplies which will make it possible for us to continue to help our children in our community throughout the school year.
The Orangeville Community Outreach would like to thank each and everyone of you who participated in the Backpack Program and to all who graciously donated backpacks and supplies. Your support makes a huge impact on our community.
OCO runs on donations from everyday people to keep helping people in need. So, any help with donations would be greatly appreciated at any time.
